Our Story
Three Generations of Tradition
Annaghs Poultry Farm is a leading egg producer in the North-East of Ireland. The company was originally founded by Charles McKenna in 1964 as an additional enterprise to the small, family, dairy farm. He supplied fresh eggs to local grocers in Dundalk and to the wholesale market in Dublin.
Today, succeeded by his sons, Owen and Dermot, Annaghs Poultry Farm remains a family business. They continue to expand the company in order to cater for the ever-changing market. Unlike many other egg-suppliers, Annaghs Poultry Farm produces, grades, packs, sells and delivers fresh eggs to wholesale and retail outlets. As a result, the company has complete control over the supply chain and so can meet all customer requirements. This also gives continuity of supply as they produce their own eggs. Annaghs Poultry Farm is a member of the Bord Bia Egg Quality Assurance Scheme, which is a code of best practice covering the production and packaging of eggs. All Annaghs Poultry Farm eggs carry the Bord Bia Quality Assured logo.

Egg traceability
You can tell a lot from the text printed on the side of an egg. For example, if you look at an Annaghs egg, you will see something similar to the eggs on the left.

This is the egg's best before date. This indicated that the egg should be consumed on or before 30th April.

From this code, you can tell a number of things.
The first character indicated the production method:
0: Organic, 1: Free Range, 2: Barn, 3: Cage.
The second and third indicated the country. In this case, IE indicating Ireland and the third indicating the county.
The final four digits identify the farm number and the house within the farm.
